I remember when I was a kid, we had civics as a subject, but my son did not have any such subject in his school. I suppose educational priorities change with every generation because we are living in an imploding knowledge society and we can only do so much in school. However, what does not change is the human being. I am not too sure how we can still keep him, and his genuine long term needs central to our educational priorities.

Agree with you that these elections "might be the turning point... or the beginning of a turning point." I too strongly feel so, if the GenNext come to intellectually understand their stake in nation building.J P Joshihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08806649492059145583noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276301849041707629.post-90970099815193192682009-04-11T23:48:00.000+05:302009-04-11T23:48:00.000+05:30I have moved to Wordpress, this is my new address,...I have moved to Wordpress, this is my new address, do drop in for a cup of tea :)

https://indianhomemaker.wordpress.com/Indian Homemakerhttp://indianhomemaker.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276301849041707629.post-19500473667450091252009-04-11T15:20:00.000+05:302009-04-11T15:20:00.000+05:30I am an optimist like you and I also believe that ...I am an optimist like you and I also believe that as a young Democracy we aren't that bad. I think we still have it in our hands to vote back our democracy. If we do not vote for violence, crime, hatred and anarchy, we will do fine.

Unfortunately we do not have enough in our school education that teaches us how precious our freedom and our democracy is - you even hear people talk about how we need a doze of benign democracy. Shocking but true that many of just see how we must preserve us as one single country...

But as you have pointed out there is a chance that this election will throw up some intersting results, I even feel this might be the turning point... or the beginning of a turning point.Indian Home Makerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10649133480442907582noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3276301849041707629.post-83086684140613515382009-04-06T21:33:00.000+05:302009-04-06T21:33:00.000+05:30Usha: This gut feeling is based on information ava...Usha: This gut feeling is based on information available till date, of course, things change by the day in our political landscape these days. I just pray and hope that either Congress or BJP get more than 200 seats, otherwise the prospects are really grim, with over a dozen kingmakers deciding the fate of our nation.

Agree with you 100 % when you say, "Let us hope that with whoever wins, the Nation wins!
Jai Hind!".

Smitha: Agree, that is the only thing in our control - doing our karma.
