Yesterday's Times of India had some quotes on happiness, two of which made a lot of sense to me - I am putting them down here for easy reference; and also a few more that I found along the way.
If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator.
- W. Beran Wolfe
Happiness is when what you think, what you say and what you do are in harmony.
- Mahatma Gandhi
We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognising and appreciating what we do have.
- Frederick Keonig
The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up.
- Mark Twain
It's pretty hard to tell what does bring happiness. Poverty and wealth have both failed.
- Frank McKinney "Kin" Hubbard
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
- Dalai Lama
Happiness is thus more about the self than about material possessions though it is also said that, "Money does not buy one happiness, but gives one the opportunity to look for it in peace". What are your thoughts?

Indeed, we often times go around "searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator" - little realizing that it lies within each one of us. I feel the happiest when I`m out doing small things that I love..
It is a state of mind.
But, thanks for sharing
HDWK: Thank you for visiting.
BK Chowla: Thank you for your comment.
Nilu: Thank you. I too loved the first one... and of course the one by Mahatma Gandhi.. a little philosophical though... harmony in thought, word, and deed gives happiness.
